He still thinks it was a good trade. He’s a terrible pirate.

So there we were at Pennsic many moons ago, a conglomerate of Vikings and pirates, inexplicably armed with laser swords, wandering around when we come upon a ship! Someone had an awesome camp gate that looked like a pirate ship. So we begin the raid and the defenders respond with rum. They trade Darth-tagnan’s sword for a bottle of good rum. The still believes it was a good trade. I’m not sure what happened to our other companion, but in the end, we had no ship and fewer swords.
Later, we found out that another camp armed with lightsabers did manage to raid the ship. That comes up again later.

The first panel used up everything I actually know about pirates. The last panel proves that there is no joke too lame for Vindalf.
Around this time, I think @lledra showed me how to use the colour options in photoshop. It would be some time before I got around to applying it to the main character. I envision Vindalf wearing a Norman style helmet and chainmail. How does one draw chainmail? (spoilers: I figure it out around issue 237.)

Darth-tagnan is technically a privateer. He’s a pirate who pays his taxes. This is totally different from a Pirate who does not. Both raid ships for the treasure and for the fun of it.

“So, Sarge, the plan before that was to walk around the inland sea and not like, swim it. Right?”
Toronto is located almost exactly half way along the north shore of lake Ontario. I know this because both border crossings are about the same distance to drive when going to Pennsic. The exact middle is somewhere around Scarorough, as Ajax is slightly closer to the Kingston bridge, and North York closer to Niagara Falls. I used to drive to Pennsylvania a lot, so I found out exactly how long it took either way.

Sometimes the Society for Creative Anachronism can produce some really great Creative Anachronisms. Walking around Pennsic with lanterns and torches is considered a fire hazard, but there are no street lights in the middle ages. So people tend to have a flash light subtly stashed about their person. The more creative may invest in lights that look like candles. And some emphasise the anachronism and carry a lightsabre instead of a sword. A particular pirate in our camp went with the last option.
There were a lot of medieval-jedi walking around that year.

His helmet was better drawn, but still not in colour.
